Hey there, hi, I’m Samantha Keay (like the letter) but I usually go by Sam. I really only use Samantha for business because everyone assumes I’m a guy if I don’t.

I’m a photographer based out of Toronto and I specialize in real estate and interiors. It took me a while to get here though- 7 long years of university. I joke I could have been a doctor with that much schooling but honestly I’m not smart like that. I hadn’t planned this of course, but life throws curveballs and I ended up dropping out of one school to go to another. I eventually graduated from Toronto Metropolitan University in 2011 with a bfa in photography and fell ass backwards into the wedding world as an assistant. Very quickly I realised it wasn’t for me regardless of how much I love weddings- the pressure on a wedding photographer is real.

So what to do? I needed to get on with life so that meant figuring out a proper job. Being underemployed had me watching a ton of television, mostly HGTV, where I realised how much I like interior design and that photographing homes would give me the opportunity to see beautiful spaces in real life. I found there was a real learning curve to shooting interiors- it’s kind of the perfect hybrid of technical skills and creativity. So over the years I took a lot of photos, made a few mistakes, and somewhere along the way I fell in love with it.

for the most part things never get built the way they were drawn
